AN OPEN LETTER TO AARP

One of the fundamental arguments for joining AARP has been that AARP is an advocate for Seniors/members. But AARP's confused public statement on modifying Social Security and Medicare, no matter how well intended or poorly misunderstood, was so inept as to give support to those who don't want either of these programs to exist at all. As Chris Matthews writes in Hardball., "You can't unring a bell." AARP has a self inflicted serious wound. No only do AARP member question why they should renew their membership, but they will also doubt the sincerity, motives, and credibility of AARP's advocacy on the entire range of issues that are vital to their members.
